Below is general information for each club/activity

Fees may apply. Checks can be made out to HWRSD - no cash for fees.
Information will be available from advisor. Meeting dates are subject to change or cancellation.

Art Club

The art club allows students the opportunity to create artwork beyond the regular art curriculum. Because of the club setting, student work can be more personal and individualized than work done in art class. The club also provides an outlet for students who want to create art throughout the school year. The setting will be informal and students do not need to attend every meeting date in order to join.

Chorale

Chorale is a select vocal ensemble that performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts, Choralfest, and any other venues deemed educationally worthy by the Director during the school year. Students do not need to be in Chorus to be in Chorale, but participation in Chorus or Band is strongly encouraged. Literature will consist of music pulled from across the spectrum of choral literature with an emphasis on advanced a cappella repertoire.

Jazz Band

The sounds of swing are alive and well at Miles River Middle School. Every Friday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30, you can hear the sound of musicians improvising solos over twelve bar blues. Jazz is a uniquely American art form. Jazz is one of the best ways to express yourself musically. Although the music has rules, the ideas are the individual’s. Therefore, it is very satisfying to play, as well as fun!

Rehearsals are every Friday from 2:30 to 3:30 in Room 226, the Band Room.

Guitar and Ukelele Club

Do you play guitar, ukulele or another string instrument? If you'd like to have fun playing your instrument with other students after school, come join the MRMS Guitar-Ukulele Club! If you are a beginner or have experience, all students are welcome to join. There are 25 classroom guitars and 25 classroom ukuleles for students to use. Please contact Ms. Linkin with any questions.

One Act Playwriting Workshop

Annually, Miles River Middle School participates in the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild’s One Act Play Festival. Miles River offers a playwriting workshop open to 20 students who will write, develop, design, produce, and perform their original work for competition at this year’s festival. Further details about auditions will be announced this January!

Middle School Musical

GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance)

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance is a school club intended to provide a safe space for students to discuss issues related to the LGBTQ+ community. Students will share in guided group discussions around topics such as current events, representation in media, and inclusivity in modern culture. We meet on alternating Tuesdays each month in room 207 from 2:30 - 3:30. This club welcomes all students who are committed to empathic and respectful social dialogue. Student Council

Student Council will meet each month to help coordinate school wide community service efforts such as food drives, Pennies for Patients and the Memorial Day Assembly. We also coordinate spirit weeks and grade level parties and activities such as movie nights and the 6th grade Halloween party. Grade 8 students who are elected to the general council can run for an officer position on Election Day in November.

Cooking Club

Cooking classes will be offered throughout the year after school through a generous donation from the Hamilton-Wenham Cultural Council. Students will learn how to make delicious treats such as crinkle cookies, calzones, pizza and scones with more to come! Classes will be posted on the Cooking Club website and students should sign-up with Ms. Adsit. Classes are free thanks to the donation.

Classes are from 2:30-3:30 so that the students can take the late bus home. 10+ classes per year in the MRMS Multi-Purpose Room.
